Livingston+McKay Wins Southeast EMMY®

The HD documentary "Voices: Finding Byron Herbert Reece” won a Southeast EMMY® award. Gainesville based media company, Livingston+McKay LLC in association with Deem Loureiro, Inc. produced the program which aired on Georgia Public Broadcasting in November 2010.

The documentary brings attention to one of the most overlooked poets in American literature, Byron Herbert Reece. A little known contemporary of T.S. Eliot, the Georgia farmer/poet and his work are revealed through the personal stories of his close friends, as well as what is being done today to preserve his legacy.

"We are especially honored to be recognized for this particular documentary. As producers, we stand on the shoulders of many talented people. We view this EMMY® award as a testament to the power of collaboration, therefore we share our EMMY® win with the remarkable people who came together to bring Reece's life story and poetry to a large audience,” said producer Renée McKay said.

“Voices” won in the Documentary Historical category and was up against entries from GPB and South Carolina Education TV. Livingston+McKay learned the program was one of three EMMY® nominees winnowed from a field of eight back in May. The win was a first for producers, Karen Deem and McKay, but was a second EMMY® for Livingston.

"It was a joy to watch my producing partner accept the award. I wanted her to take in every magical moment that evening, and winning the EMMY® capped off the night," said Joani Livingston.

Currently, the award winning producers are in post-production for "Primary Concern," an HD documentary exploring the looming primary care crisis in health care, particularly in rural and underserved areas. The program is intended for broadcast on GPB in early 2013.

The Southeast EMMY® Awards are presented by the Southeast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Founded in 1957, the NATAS is dedicated to the advancement of the arts and sciences of television and the promotion of creative leadership for artistic, educational and technical achievements within the television industry.

The 6th Annual Southeast EMMY® Awards presentation was held Saturday, June 18, 2011 at the Grand Hyatt Atlanta Hotel in Buckhead.
